Age Group Sectional Success!

WEST showed we were twice as good as last year by ranking 12th amongst the almost 140 teams at the Age Group Sectional meet.

We scored 179.5 points compared with last years 89 points and 24th place! We were 0.5 points out of 11th and 17.5 points from 10th. 10th place was Cascade which is 3 times our size!

Relays score double points and this year WEST had 5 scoring relays:

Girls 15-18 400 freestyle (5th)- Nichole Carlson (15 SRI), Ellen Dean (17 SRI), Kina Ackerman (18 SRI), Karla Bensen (18 SRI)

Girls 13-14 400 freestyle (3rd & WEST team record)- Lavinya Yap (13 SRI), Kaitlin Taylor (14 SRI), Anna Keane (14 SRI), Heidi VanderWel (14 SRI)

Girls 13-14 400 medley (3rd & WEST team record)- Heidi VanderWel, Anna Keane, Kaitlin Taylor, Lavinya Yap

Girls 13-14 200 medley (2nd & WEST team record)- Heidi VanderWel, Anna Keane, Kaitlin Taylor, Lavinya Yap

Girls 13-14 200 freestyle (3rd & WEST team record)- Lavinya Yap, Kaitlin Taylor, Anna Keane, Heidi VanderWel

In final day action:

Nicole Limberg (10 Age Group) placed 2nd in the 50 breast earning a WEST team record!

Cole VanderWel (12 AGA) placed 5th in the mile bettering his WEST team record by 3 seconds!

Brianna Lucien (12 AGA) placed 4th dropping 19 seconds in the mile!

Demetra Laurent (12 AGA) placed 8th dropping almost 6 seconds in the mile!

Matt Williamson (14 SRI) dropped 7 seconds in the mile and 1 second in the 200 free!

Lauren Cooley (12 AGA) dropped 4 seconds in her 200 freestyle to place 9th!

Madison Pressler (11 Age Group) dropped 3 seconds in her 200 freestyle!

Anthony Mikhail (10 Age Group) dropped 2 seconds in his 100 fly to score 5th place!

Lavinya Yap (13 SRI) placed 8th in the 100 fly and 6th in the 200 back!

Ellen Dean (17 SRI) had a best time in the 100 fly!

Kaitlin Taylor (14 SRI) placed 6th in the 100 fly with a best time!

Heidi VanderWel (14 SRI) placed 5th in the 100 fly with a best time and placed 1st in the 200 back with a time of 1:57.99 which is a WEST 13-14 and Senior team record, a meet record and a PNS record as well as a National qualifying time and currently puts her at #3 in the nation for age 14 and 35th for 18 & under girls!!

Great job WEST swimmers and coaches! We're on the rise and going strong!

Last stop on our short course season tour is KCAC in Federal Way this weekend for Divisional Championships!

WEST has 60 swimmers participating this weekend and rumor has it that there will be around 1200 swimmers in the meet!!
