These dedicated WEST members stood in front of Chase Bank today in the bitter chill and wind to solicit donations for our "Save the Pool" fund. This and several other such creative and ambitious endeavors is typical of the pride and enthusiasm fueling the momentum to reach our challenging fund raising goals this season!

Age Group Sectional Success!
WEST showed we were twice as good as last year by ranking 12th amongst the almost 140 teams at the Age Group Sectional meet.
We scored 179.5 points compared with last years 89 points and 24th place! We were 0.5 points out of 11th and 17.5 points from 10th. 10th place was Cascade which is 3 times our size!
Relays score double points and this year WEST had 5 scoring relays:
Girls 15-18 400 freestyle (5th)- Nichole Carlson (15 SRI), Ellen Dean (17 SRI), Kina Ackerman (18 SRI), Karla Bensen (18 SRI)
Girls 13-14 400 freestyle (3rd & WEST team record)- Lavinya Yap (13 SRI), Kaitlin Taylor (14 SRI), Anna Keane (14 SRI), Heidi VanderWel (14 SRI)
Girls 13-14 400 medley (3rd & WEST team record)- Heidi VanderWel, Anna Keane, Kaitlin Taylor, Lavinya Yap

In final day action:
Nicole Limberg (10 Age Group) placed 2nd in the 50 breast earning a WEST team record!
Cole VanderWel (12 AGA) placed 5th in the mile bettering his WEST team record by 3 seconds!
Brianna Lucien (12 AGA) placed 4th dropping 19 seconds in the mile!
Demetra Laurent (12 AGA) placed 8th dropping almost 6 seconds in the mile!
Matt Williamson (14 SRI) dropped 7 seconds in the mile and 1 second in the 200 free!
Lauren Cooley (12 AGA) dropped 4 seconds in her 200 freestyle to place 9th!
Madison Pressler (11 Age Group) dropped 3 seconds in her 200 freestyle!
Anthony Mikhail (10 Age Group) dropped 2 seconds in his 100 fly to score 5th place!
Lavinya Yap (13 SRI) placed 8th in the 100 fly and 6th in the 200 back!
Ellen Dean (17 SRI) had a best time in the 100 fly!
Kaitlin Taylor (14 SRI) placed 6th in the 100 fly with a best time!
Heidi VanderWel (14 SRI) placed 5th in the 100 fly with a best time and placed 1st in the 200 back with a time of 1:57.99 which is a WEST 13-14 and Senior team record, a meet record and a PNS record as well as a National qualifying time and currently puts her at #3 in the nation for age 14 and 35th for 18 & under girls!!
Great job WEST swimmers and coaches! We're on the rise and going strong!
Last stop on our short course season tour is KCAC in Federal Way this weekend for Divisional Championships!
WEST has 60 swimmers participating this weekend and rumor has it that there will be around 1200 swimmers in the meet!!

WEST on The Score Board at SR Sectional Meet!
WEST's Heidi VanderWel (14 SRI) tied for 6th place in the 100 Backstroke at SR Sectionals in Federal Way tonight with a time of 56.75! This was Heidi's first championship final at a SR Sectional meet.
Heidi was WEST's second final qualifier of the meet as Kalena Laurent (15 SRI) moved up two spots to place 20th in the C final of 200 fly on Thursday!
On the final day of the meet, Lou Moores (17 SRI) made the D final in the 50 freestyle and placed 31st out of 160 entries!
After 5 days of this meet, WEST SR girls have amassed 4 team records in the 200 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 free and medley relays! In individual team record glory, Alec Barnard took a second off of the WEST men's senior 100 fly record with a time of 53.46!

Yap Earns National Ranking!
Barnard Crushes Competition in 2A HS State Meet
Archbishop Murphy freshman Alec Barnard (15 SRI) won the boys 200 Freestyle at the WIAA 2A State meet in Federal Way!
His time of 1:46.19 was a new meet record!
Alec also swam the 100 fly and earned third place with a time of 53.73!!
Both of Alec’s swims gained him admission to the WEST hosted Senior Sectional meet next week...
Congratulations to Alec for a hard earned job well done!

At the USA Swimming Short Course National Championships, Deb Keane was awarded the 2009 USA Swimming Conoco Phillips Outstanding Service Award. Deb Keane has exemplified Outstanding Service in the Pacific Northwest. While hosting (as Meet Director) the two National Championship level meets as Meet Director this August, and the Short Course National Championships in December, and serving on the PNS Board of Directors as Safety Chair, and now Program Operations Vice Chair she has exemplified professional service to our sport. Congratulations Deb for your selection for this award, and thank you for your service.

WEST Rocks Area High School District Meets!
In local 4A action, Sawyer Stibre-Harris (15 SRP) and Hunter Cosgrove (14 SRP) both made finals in the 500 freestyle. Sawyer placed 7th in a tight race to the finish in the console final winning his heat and lowering his previous time 23 seconds! Hunter was 3rd in the C final lowering his time 5 seconds!
WEST was represented in 3A as well with 4th places finishes in the 100 Breast and 200 IM by freshman Kyle Christenson (14 SRP)!
